Pulpit Ministers
Kirk Tooley and Al Washington, Gospel Preachers
Greetings. My name is Kirk Tooley, and I welcome you to the Central church of Christ at Pflugerville website. I am the gospel preacher at the Central congregation. I invite you to take time to examine the information provided here. It will provide you with an insight of our commitment to glorify God in our worship and service to Him. Our invitation to worship with us goes out to all. A special invitation is extended to those living in and around the Pflugerville area who are looking for a church family with sound doctrinal values. Join us in our vision for the future of the Lord's church in Pflugerville. A bio sketch follows: Brother Tooley graduated from the Southwest School of Bible Studies in Austin in 1998 with a diploma in Biblical Studies, under sound doctrinal instructors including John Moore, Carl Garner, Tim Ayers, Al Macias, and Rick Brumback. In February 2003, with the support of a few dedicated Christians, Central church of Christ began meeting together in Pflugerville, a bedroom community of Austin with a population of about 25,000. There was no congregation located in Pflugerville and we saw a need and a great opportunity to evangelize in the area. Brother Tooley serves as the pulpit gospel preacher. While attending Southwest School of Bible Studies, he assisted in teaching, song leading and working with youth activities at the University Hills church of Christ in Austin under the direction of the elders and Brother Frank Dunn, deceased. Following graduation, he served as associate preacher at University Hills for five years. At University Hills he was editor and instructor of The Austin School of Religion, a work under the direction of the elders of University Hills. Other annual programs included planning and preparing lesson plans for church youth camps, Teen Lectures, vacation Bible school, Austin School of Religion Lectureship, and a weekly TV program. Brother Tooley serves as co-editor of Truth for Teens, a free monthly magazine for teens, under the oversight of Central church of Christ at Pflugerville. Truth for Teens has been in publication since February 2002 and has a circulation of 500. Brother Tooley was born in 1963 and married Lori Kasey in 1986. They are parents of three children, Courtney, a college student; Kasey and Brandon, high school students. He attended the University of Texas at Austin for two years before entering the Southwest School of Bible Studies. He also has acquired over 100 other college credit hours from the university and other Junior and community colleges. They have lived in Pflugerville for eighteen years. |
Brother Al Washington is also a graduate of the Southwest School of Bible Studies in Austin (2004), having received a diploma in Biblical Studies under the same doctrinally-sound instructors. During the summer of 2003 between his first and second year of preaching school, he was called on to do fill-in preaching for the University Hills congregation, which continued until he was hired as the full-time, pulpit preacher for the congregation in January of 2004. His love for proclaiming the gospel from the pulpit, as well as in classroom, small group, and personal studies was consistently demonstrated during his six and a half year tenure with University Hills, resulting in 30+ baptisms and restorations, as well as in the encouragement of numerous Christians. Brother Washington was also responsible for scheduling two gospel meetings per year, conducting teachers' workshops and evangelism trainings for the congregation. Additionally, he has conducted gospel meetings and spoken on lectureships in Texas, Florida, Virginia and Indiana. Currently, brother Washington co-preaches for the Central congregation and works with the World Video Bible School organization in Maxwell, TX. Prior to relocating to Texas for preaching school, Al taught in the public school system of Palm Beach County, FL. Over a seven year period, he taught middle school mathematics, high school algebra, and also coached basketball on both levels. A graduate of the University of Florida, Al holds both a bachelor's and master's degree in elementary education, specializing in middle grades mathematics (1990 and 1992). On December 17, 1994, Al married the former Rhonda Johnson in West Palm Beach, FL. They have two wonderful, bright and energetic boys: Zachary (11), a student at Brentwood Christian School, and Gabriel (2). The Washingtons have resided in North Austin since August of 2004. |
